• Cambodia Gambling Dens

    [ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den betting is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel compound that features many comforts on top of the gambling den, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
